A very scarce first edition.
Illustrated with seventeen plates, four of which are double paged. Collated, complete.
Architect Owen B. Carter discusses the Church of St. John the Baptist at Bishopstone, a cruciform church with significant architectural features spanning various periods, including Norman, 14th-century Decorated, and 15th-century Perpendicular styles.
These plates are engraved by Mr. John le Keux.
Condition
Rebound in quarter calf, with marbled paper covered boards. Endpapers renewed. Rubbing to board perimeters, otherwise externally excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Title page and following leaf trimmed to gutter and laid down. Small closed tear to fore edge of title page. Pages clean and bright. Foxing to plates.
