What Our Customers Say...

Description

Colour Plates, Early Edition, Folding Plates, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Rebound

The single volume second edition of this work, bound in two volumes.

First published the year prior, in this work Alexander William Kinglake recounts his journey through the Near East in the 1830s, including travels through Turkey, Syria, Palestine, and Egypt.

Illustrated with a folding frontispiece and one further plate, both of which are hand-coloured lithographs. Collated, complete.

Kinglake blends travel narrative with social commentary and vivid descriptions of Eastern landscapes and customs, reflecting the attitudes of an upper-class Englishman of the period.

Condition

Rebound in full morocco, with endpapers renewed. Externally, vibrant. Internally, firmly bound. Pages significantly age toned to perimeters, with handling marks throughout, and spotting throughout, most concentrated to leaves surrounding plates. Paper residue to fold of frontispiece.
