John Scott, 1st Earl of Eldon was a British barrister and politician who served as Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain from 1801-1806 and again between 1807-1827. This biography explores both his public and private life, tracing back the origins of his family and name, discussing his elopement with Bessie Surtees, his call to the bar, his candidacy for Chancellorship, political disturbances and much more.
This work also includes examples of Lord Chancellor Eldon's correspondence, including letters from George III, George IV, Queen Charlotte, and other members of the royal family.
From Horace Twiss, an English writer and politician who was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1827.
Condition
Uniformly bound in full diced calf, with decorative gilt to the spines. Externally, with dark spots to the boards and rubbing to the extremities. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean, with scattered spots concentrated to the first and last couple leaves, and to the plates.
