This is the New Testament portion of the King James Bible, also known as the Authorized Version, commissioned by King James I of England in 1604 and first published in 1611.
Anglican in origin, the KJV soon became the most widely read translation among English-speaking Protestants across a broad range of denominations.
Condition
Rebound in a full brown morocco prize binding. Prize inscription to front paste down, awarded to Frances Cundall in 1845, for regular attendance. Externally, generally smart. Bookplate from Frances Cundall to front paste down. Front hinge cracked, with binding materials partially exposed, but firm. Slight offsetting to endpapers, with the odd spot. The odd handling mark to rear endpapers. Three small chips to upper extremities of front free endpaper, very small loss to upper corner or rear free endpaper. Rubbing and bumping to extremities and boards. Slight creasing to spine. Front joint cracked, but holding firm. Rear joint very slightly cracked. The odd scratch to boards. One or two slight handling marks to boards. Internally, generally firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with the odd spot to fore edge.
