With commentary on navigational processes, the life and education of Columbus, war with the indigenous peoples, the role of Cortes, manners and customs, and more. Including reference to the development of governments. Written by William Robertson, a Scottish historian, cleric, and educator who served as Principal of the University of Edinburgh, Chaplain of Stirling Castle, and one of the King's Chaplains in Scotland. With a memoir of the author by Dugald Stewart, a Scottish philosopher and mathematician regarded as one of the most important figures of the later Scottish Enlightenment.

Condition

Bound in full crushed morocco with gilt. Externally, smart with light rubbing to the extremities and the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Light age toning to the endpapers with a contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
