This is the second volume in a celebrated Victorian anthology series edited by Samuel Carter Hall (1800–1889), a prominent editor, critic, and cultural figure of the 19th century.
This series was conceived as a richly illustrated celebration of British poetry and art, pairing literary selections with engraved reproductions of works by leading artists.
Poets include John Promfet, Robert Burns, James Hurdis, William Shenstone, Thomas Gray, William Collins, Oliver Goldsmith, Joseph Addison and james Beattie, among many others.
Condition
In a full morocco binding, bound by J. Wright. Externally very smart. Slight rubbing and bumping to extremities, resulting in slight loss to morocco. Slight offsetting to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean with the odd spot, scattered spotting to first and last few leaves.
