Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding

First edition. Illustrated with one-hundred and twenty-four plates. Collated complete. A monograph exploring the baptismal fonts examples in churches across Britain, an interesting contribution to the study of ecclesiastical antiquities. The fonts in this volume date as far back as Norman England, alongside examples of both decorated and perpendicular fonts, from churches in Axbridge, Galway, Leicester, Saffron Walden, St. Neots, and more. Compiled by Thomas Combe, a British printer, publisher and patron of the arts. Engraved by Thomas Orlando Sheldon Jewitt, a British architectural wood-engraver. With an introduction by Frederick Apthorp Paley, an English classical scholar.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, sound with light rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and board edges with the odd small mark to the cloth. Small splits in the cloth to the head and tail of the spine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Minor age toning to the endpapers.
