The first edition. 

A four volume set, including volumes 1-3 and volume five. 

Illustrated with a monochrome copper engraved frontispiece, and twenty-four monochrome engravings, including woodcut vignettes and copper engraved plates to 'Volume I', and 'Volume II'. Twenty-eight engravings to 'Volume III', and fifty-three to 'Volume V', including woodcut vignettes and copper engraved plates. Many of the plates are folding plates. Collated, complete. 

A collection of papers on engineering, published quarterly by John Weale. The works cover a range of topics including the Thames Tunnel, the Taunus Railway, the construction of the iron roof for the Houses of Parliament, and the restoration of the Herne Bay Pier. Many of the articles refer to railway engineering and progress in the railway industry. 

Bound in contemporary half morocco with moire cloth boards.

Condition

Bound in contemporary half morocco with moire cloth boards. Externally very smart with fading to the spines, and light rubbing to the spines, joints and extremities, and the odd mark to the boards. Bookplates and bookplate remnants to the front pastedowns. Rear hinge tender to 'Vol II'. Internally firmly bound with bright pages with occasional light spotting.
