A scarce periodical, here with four volumes bound in two, being Volumes VI, VII, VIII, and IX.

Bound without the original wraps.

An interesting magazine exploring the scientific developments of the Victorian era, with nods to the arts.

Including articles on the Earl of Dundonald's Improved Steam Engine, fossils found in Denmark, Australia, and New Zealand, the progress of electrical discovery, phosphoric light emitted by flowers, improvements on the manufacture of glass, apparatus for drying plants, electro-magnetic printing telegraph, volcanoes, how to preserve meat, gutta percha binding, Little's double-action printing machine, photography, and more. 

Volume VI and VII contains Numbers 262 to 352, Volume VIII and IX contains numbers 358 to 448. 

Illustrated with one full-paged engraved to each number, acting as the title pages, and the occasional in-text engraving, as well as two folding plates to Volume IX.

Condition

In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart, a little rubbed, rubbing havier to the spine labels. Minor bumping to the extremities. Spots to the endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned with scattered spots. Small chip to the title page of Volume VIII.
