The work of Ernest, or Ernst Dieffenbach, who was the first trained scientist to live and work in New Zealand. In this travel work, Dieffenbach provides an account his travels under the auspices of the New Zealand Company. Notably, Dieffenbach was one of the first Europeans to visit the Rotomahana area in New Zealand.
Lacking the very scarce four pages of publisher's advertisements to the rear of Volume II, as is typical with this work.
Attractively bound in half calf, with endpapers renewed.
Condition
Rebound in half calf, with marbled paper covered boards, and with endpapers renewed. Externally, fine. Internally, firmly bound. Pages lightly age toned, with the odd spot and significant handling marks throughout. Tide marks to volume II plate, with the odd tide mark to text leaves.
