Knight himself owned and repaired an imperfect First Folio in his youth, and created this edition in order to focus on accurate depictions of settings, historical figures, and period costume, while keeping the text close to First Folio readings, occasionally checked against originals in the British Museum.
Consisting of an introductory volume housing Shakespeare's poetry, two volumes devoted to the histories, two to the tragedies, and two to the comedies.
Handsomely bound in full calf, with gilt detailing.
Undated; dated 1843 via the British Library.
Condition
In full calf bindings with gilt detailing to back strips and centre of boards. Externally, excellent. Rubbing to joints, and a touch of rubbing to back strip heads and tails. Light spotting to endpapers. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
