William Simpson's first-hand record of the British government's ill-fated attempt to explore and establish trade and anti-slavery treaties along the Niger River.

He details the progress of the expedition, the geography and peoples encountered, and the severe hardships faced, particularly the heavy toll of disease on the crews.

Simpson's journal preceded the official account of this expedition by five years.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. A touch of shelf wear to back strip tail, with minor bump to back strip head. Light fading to back strip, with light tide marks to front board tail, and instances of small areas of fading to rear board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages exceptionally clean and bright.
