'The Vicar of Wakefield' was one of the most popular and widely read novels upon its publication and into the Victorian era. The novel follows the fall and rise of the Primrose family, who are presided over by the benevolent narrator, the Vicar.
Illustrated by George Dorrington with a frontispiece, seven plates, and in-text engravings.
Written by Oliver Goldsmith, an Irish novelist who is best known for this novel, though also for his pastoral poem 'The Deserted Village', and the plays 'The Good-Natur'd Man' and 'She Stoops to Conquer'.
This edition includes a memoir of the author by G. Moir Bussey.
Collated, bound without the half-title, otherwise complete.
Condition
In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart, a little rubbed. Minor bumping to the extremities. Spine is faded. Light marks to the boards. Hinges are starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and clean, with a few scattered spots.
