Illustrated with a monochrome engraved frontispiece and forty-six monochrome plates to 'Volume I', twenty-six to 'Volume II'. With further black and white in-text illustrations throughout. Collated, complete. Two volumes bound in one, with separate pagination for each volume but no separate title page to 'Volume II' as usual. This highly illustrated work presents a history of interior design in London, depicting the grandeur of buildings such as Buckingham Palace, St. James' Palace, Westminster Hall, the British Museum, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and many more.

In the publisher’s original purple cloth with gilt decoration. Externally, very smart with shelf wear to the extremities and joints. Bumping to spine head and tail. The odd mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages age toned with the odd spot, heaviest to the first and last few. Gilt fore edge.
