Beautifully illustrated by Phiz with monochrome frontispieces and engraved title pages and twenty plates to both volumes. Collated, complete.
The second published novel of Charles Lever, an exciting adventure novel set on the continent during the Peninsular War and the Battle of Waterloo. 'Charles O'Malley' contains many vividly described battle scenes, bringing to life the battlefields in fantastic detail. Though the plot focuses on the dramatic battles, Lever's tone in humorous and fun.
A two volume complete set.
Condition
Bound in full calf contemporary calf, re-backed with the original spine laid down. Externally very smart with slight marks, minor fading and wear to the spine and light edge wear. Hinges cracked but remain firm. Internally firmly bound with occasional light spotting, heavier to the frontispieces, engraved title pages and plates which have occasional age toning.
