What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding, Very Scarce
Complete in four volumes. First edition. Very scarce work. A novel attempting, as Ward declares in the preface, to provide a 'Picture of Human Life' in upper circles, following the protagonist Arthur De Clifford as he navigates the social complexities of upper-class English society. Exploring themes of honor, loyalty, and perseverance in early nineteenth-century aristocratic life. Written by Robert Plumer Ward, an English barrister, politician, and novelist. George Canning once said that Ward's law books were as pleasant as novels, and his novels as dull as law books.
