A brilliant historical romance novel by William Harrison Ainsworth, telling of the tragic life of Lady Jane Grey, and her short lived time as Queen of England.

The novel begins with Jane entering the Tower of London in 1553, following her time in the Tower before her execution. Ainsworth also looks back at other historical events and events more contemporary to when he was writing, from anecdotes on William the Conqueror, to the Cato Street Conspiracy.

Condition

In a full calf binding. Externally, generally smart, a little rubbed with light marks. Minor bumping to the extremities. Small tear to the tail of the rear joint. Hinges are starting but firm. Bookplate and prior owner's ink inscription to the front paste down, prior owner's ink inscription to the recto of the front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots. Plate facing page 126 is detached but present.
