With a decorative title page and six plates. Collated, complete.
Supposedly written by Thomas Ingoldsby of Tappington Manor (the pen-name of English clergyman Richard Harris Barham) 'The Ingoldsby Legends' comprises myths, legends, ghost stories and poems that originally appeared in Bentley's Miscellany and later in The New Monthly Magazine.
This volume (the first out of three published) includes 'Grey Dolphin', 'The Witches' Frolic', 'The Lady Rohesia', 'The Cynotaph' and 'Legend of Hamilton Tighe', among others.
Condition
In full calf binding. Externally, smart, with dark spots to the boards and shelf wear. Bookplate of one Arthur Rowlands to the front pastedown. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are generally bright, with occasional scattered spotting, with concentrated instances to the plates and surrounding leaves.
