Description

Early Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding

The twenty-sixth thousand. First published in 1837.

Illustrated with a frontispiece, a folding map and twenty-seven vignette engravings. Collated, complete.

Written by the Rev. John Williams, an English missionary active in the South Pacific in the early nineteenth century.

Towards the end of his life Williams decided to make a record of his adventures during this period. This fascinating work offers an autobiographical account of Williams's time on islands including Somoa, Vanuatu and Raratonga, alongside details regarding the area's natural history, local inhabitants and traditions of the island, from the perspective of a British missionary.

This informative travel work provided much insight to the South Sea islands at a time where English understanding of the region was limited.
