Latin. Complete in four volumes. The histories of Titus Livius, known in English as Livy, a Roman historian who wrote a monumental history of Rome and the Roman people from the earliest legends of Rome before the traditional founding in 753 BC through the reign of Augustus in his own lifetime. Being a collection of all remaining texts from Livius, as well as extracts and fragments of his lost works, being an essential source for understanding the early history of Rome, with legends, myths, and accounts of the events that shaped the rise of the Roman Republic. The original works were composed of one hundred and forty-two books, but only a small portion have survived. These highly influential works continue to be studied by historians and scholars interested in Roman history and classical literature. With commentary from the review of Arnold Drakenborch, a Dutch classical scholar, and rewritten by Johann Gottlieb Kreyssig, a German philologist and pedagogue. With selected annotations. Edited by Sir Travers Twiss, an English jurist who had a distinguished academic and legal career.
