Captain William Cornwallis Harris' account of his expedition to South Africa, from 1836 to 1837, and his experiences with the local sporting life. This is a vivid depiction of life in South Africa during these years; Harris travelled from the Cape of Good Hope through the territories of the Chief Moselekatse, to the Tropic of Capricorn. An important work, one of the first European books to discuss the hunting of game animals in Africa.

In the original gilt cloth, re-backed. Endpapers renewed, half title retained. Externally very smart with bumping to the extremities of the boards, and the odd very minimal mark. Internally firmly bound with lightly age toned pages and the odd spot, heavier to the front and rear. Owner's signatures to the half title.
