Illustrated with two plates including a frontispiece, two fold-out maps, and a further 25 diagrams, illustrations and plans within the text. Collated, complete. 

A comprehensive parish history of Hammersmith, tracing its development, landmarks, institutions, and ecclesiastical life, interwoven with biographical accounts of notable residents over the previous three centuries.

Thomas Faulkner (1777-1855), was a notable topographer of west London. Faulkner’s parish histories of: Chelsea, Fulham, Kensington, and Hammersmith, are valued for their in-depth research, archival use, and enduring importance for local and London historians.

Condition

Bound in a half morocco with marbled paper boards. Externally, smart. Slight rubbing to boards and extremities resulting in slight loss to paper and morocco. Very slight splaying to boards. Hinges cracked, but firm. Previous owner's bookplate to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages generally bright and clean if typically age toned. Light scattered spotting to first and last few leaves and fore edges, more so to plates. Slight offsetting from frontispiece to title page. Tape reinforcements to extremities of maps, with one or two closed tears to extremities of the fold-out map facing the first page.
