A comprehensive 19th-century historical survey of London's churches. Volume I describes twenty churches (including St. Paul's, All-Hallows, Church of St. Bartholomew and the Temple) and Volume II describes fifty-five churches (including St. Vedast, Trinity Church, Mary-at-Hill, and Peter le Poor).
Pagination restarts with each church described.
With thirty plates and in-text illustrations to Vol I and twenty-eight plates and in-text illustrations to Vol II. Collated, complete.
Compiled by George Godwin, an influential British architect, journalist and editor of The Builder magazine, with the assistance of antiquary and editor, John Britton.
Condition
Uniformly bound in half diced calf, with marbled boards. Externally, lacking spines to both volumes. Front joint tender to Vol I and both joints tender to Vol II. General rubbing to the extremities. Bookplate of one Benjamin Hynam to the front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean, with browned spots to the corners of the free endpapers and to the pastedowns. Light scattered spotting to the endpapers.
