With a colour frontispiece, five further monochrome plates, a folding map and numerous in text vignettes. Collated complete. 

The work recounts Williams' missionary journeys across the South Pacific, detailing the mission stations he established, along with the ethnography of the island. The work is notable for Williams' belief in learning the native languages in order to engage with the local people. 

Condition

In full morocco with gilt detail. Externally very smart with just slight rubbing to joints and extremities. Hinges slightly strained but firm. Prior owner's ink stamp and inscriptions to preliminaries. Internally firmly bound. Pages generally bright with scattered spotting. Bookseller label to rear paste down. Prior owner's ink inscription to iv.
