Two very scarce volumes detailing the reports of Royal Commissions into matters of public concern in Britain, which provides detailed evidence, testimonies, and findings on a wide range of subjects.

The volume on Railways reflects the rapid expansion of the railway network during the Industrial Revolution and document parliamentary inquiries into safety, regulation, and economic impact, while the volume on the Supply of Water to the Metropolis examines the public health implications of London's inadequate and often polluted water sources. 

The first volume is volume X of the reports, detailing the session of 5 February - 27 August 1839, and containing the first and second report regarding 'Railways', alongside their minutes.

Illustrated with three colour plates.

The second volume is volume XXII of the reports, detailing the session of 31 January - 15 August 1850, and containing reports from the Board of Health regarding the 'Supply of Water to the Metropolis'. 

This volume contains the Report, alongside four appendixes, and an extract minute.

Illustrated with a small number of vignettes, and thirteen maps, tables, and plans, two of which are in colour.

Rebound in cloth, with endpapers renewed.

Condition

Rebound in cloth, with endpapers renewed. Externally, bright, with instances of light handling marks to boards, and light rubbing to calf labels. Front hinge of 'Water' strained, with board firmly held. Internally, firmly bound. Closed tear repaired by tape to tail of general title page of 'Railways'. Pages otherwise clean and bright. Each leaf hand-numbered in ink to head.
