1838 Visions of the Western Railways
What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Leather Binding, Rebound, Very Scarce
A lovely copy of this very scarce privately published collection of poems, dedicated to the British MP and Baronet Sir Charles Lemon, who in the year prior to the publication of this work was appointed to serve on the Transportation Committee of the House of Commons, and was on the committee of management of the South Western Railway.
The first forty-nine pages include a collection of short poems, followed by a collection of poems headed 'Thoughts on the British Association at Liverpool, 1837', which constitutes pages 51 to 90. The pagination then begins anew, with further short poems and verses following.
A fascinating and very scarce volume of poetry about the railways, published during the early stages of the railway in England; in 1830, the Liverpool and Manchester Railway opened, establishing the pattern of modern railways.
