Offering detailed information on experiments on the powers of the improved locomotive engines, and tables of the comparative cost of conveyance on canals, railways, and turnpike roads. 

Including chapters on rail road construction, iron rails, descriptions of motive power, turnpike roads, canals, and more. 

Illustrated with thirteen folding engraved plates, displaying diagrams of locomotive technology, and two folding charts. 

Collated, complete.

With sixteen pages of advertisements to the rear, dated June 1838.

Written by Nicholas Wood, colliery viewer and member of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Condition

In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Small area of rubbing resulting in minor loss of cloth to rear board. Rear joint starting, with board firmly held. Front hinge strained, and just a touch tender. Internally, firmly bound. Inscription to title page head. Pages lightly age toned, with handling marks and instances of spotting throughout, and with significant spotting to plates.
