What Our Customers Say...
Description
First Edition, Leather Binding, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding
Complete in five volumes. First edition. With a frontispiece to volumes I, IV, and V; a folding frontispiece to volume II; and three facsimile plates to the rear of volume IV, two of which are folding. Collated complete. An account of the life of William Wilberforce, a British politician, philanthropist, and a leader of the movement to abolish the Atlantic slave trade. These volumes explore his childhood, education, his conversion to becoming an Evangelical Anglican and his expansive political career, with examples of his correspondence. Five years after his death, his sons, Robert and Samuel, published this five-volume biography detailing the life and accomplishments of their father. The work sparked some controversy after Thomas Clarkson expressed distaste for their biased version of the role William played in the abolition movement. Written by Robert Isaac Wilberforce, an English clergyman and writer and Samuel Wilberforce, an English bishop in the Church of England.
