In two volumes.
Bound in publisher's original green cloth.
Featuring a frontispiece to volume one, illustrated title pages to both volumes and a few additional in-text illustrations.
With a bookplate from John Reynolds Gulson to each volume. Volume one also contains an inscription dated 1839 and a smaller plate to the top left of the front paste down reading, "A. Holden, Bookseller, 60, High Street, Exeter."
The addition of "Maxims and Hints for an Angler" by A Bungler can be found to the back of volume two, followed by one page of publisher's advertisements.
From renowned natural historian Edward Jesse. Jesse was also known for his work on the restoration and preservation of Hampton Court Palace.
This work was first published in 1832 and details a wide range of animals from birds to fish to mammals. Jesse also notes his own experiences in nature and in well-loved and local locations, for example, Richmond Park and Swineshead Abbey.
Condition
In publisher's original green cloth binding. Externally, very nice. Slight bumping to spine and rubbing to spine tips. The occasional mark visible on front and back boards. Bookplate from John Reynolds Gulson to the front paste down of each volume. Smaller bookseller's plate to the top left of the front paste down of volume one. Inscription dated 1839 to the first free endpaper of volume one. Internally, generally firmly bound. Sporadic annotations to volume one. Spotting heavier to the first and last few pages of both volumes. Pages otherwise bright and clean.
