The first edition of this work, complete in two volumes.

A wonderful collection of verses from English poet and clergyman George Crabbe, who was best known for his early depictions of working class life and the realistic narrative form.

Beautifully bound in straight grain morocco, with gilt detailing.

Lord Byron, an avowed admirer of Crabbe's poetry, called him 'nature's sternest painter, yet the best'.

Condition

In a straight grain morocco binding, with extensive gilt detailing to back strip and board perimeters. Externally, lovely, with light rubbing to joints, and minor loss of calf to volume I back strip head. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with the odd spot, most concentrated to the first and last few leaves, and to page perimeters.
