Description

First Edition, Folding Plates, Illustrated, Leather Binding, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding

Complete in seven volumes. First edition. Volume one is illustrated with a portrait frontispiece and a folding facsimile of Scott's handwriting. A detailed and masterfully written account of the life of Sir Walter Scott, a Scottish novelist, poet and historian who greatly influenced European and American literature. Many of his works remain classics of European and Scottish literature, notably the novels Ivanhoe (1819), Rob Roy (1817), and Waverley (1814), as well as the narrative poems Marmion (1808) and The Lady of the Lake (1810). These volumes contain the original short autobiographical work written by Scott describing his ancestry, parentage, and life up to the age of twenty-two. Offering the most important source of information on Scott's early life, and being Chapter 1 of J. G. Lockhart's multi-volume memoirs. Lockhart's memoir goes on to provide insights into Scott's upbringing, family background, and the formative events that shaped his character and career. It is considered a significant work and a comprehensive look at Scott's life. Written by John Gibson Lockhart, a Scottish writer and editor, best known for this much-admired biography of his father-in-law. Bound by Clarke & Bedford.
