What Our Customers Say...

Description

Early Edition, Leather Binding

The second edition of this work in a half calf binding with marbled boards.

Basil Hall (1788-1844) was a British naval officer from Scotland, a traveller and an author.

In 1834, Hall accepted an invitation from Jane Cranstoun, the Countess of Purgstall, to visit her estates in Styria, which were later bequeathed to the eminent historian and Orientalist, Joseph von Hammer-Purgstall. Hall recorded the events of this trip in this work, a Gothic travel account, which some consider to have inspired Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla.

Condition

In a half calf binding. Externally, generally smart, with rubbing to the spine and extremities. Cracking to the head of the front joint. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright with the odd spot, more so to the first and last few pages.
