A charming topographical work exploring the scenery around the Whitby and Pickering railway, in the north-eastern part of Yorkshire.
Henry Belcher offers descriptions to accompany the engraved illustrations. With appendixes containing an account of the murder of the monk of Whitby, a list of native plants, and an account of the opening of the railway.
With the inscription of Lavinia Shooter to the front free endpaper, and the bookplate of the Library of the United College, Bradford, to the front pastedown.
Rebacked, retaining the original endpapers.

The artist George Haydock Dodgson (1811-1880) exhibited at the Society of British Artists from 1835 and was a member of the Old Watercolour Society. After taking sketching tours of Wales, Cumberland and Yorkshire, he mainly sketched public buildings and produced work for architects in London. He also designed plates for the ‘Illustrated London News’.

Rebacked, in the publisher's original cloth binding, retaining original boards and with back strip laid down. Externally, excellent. Retaining the original endpapers. Bookplate to front pastedown, inscription to front free endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with only the odd spot.
