What Our Customers Say...

Description

First Edition, Illustrated, Leather Binding

First edition, in a half calf binding with cloth boards.

Written by English naturalist Thomas Campbell Eyton, who specialised in birds, cattle and fish. Eyton was a friend of famed naturalist Charles Darwin, although they did not always share the same beliefs.

Two volumes bound in one, as is typical with this work.

Comprised of 'A History of the Rarer British Birds' and 'A Catalogue of British Birds', both published in 1836.

The principal objectives of the author was to publicise the series of woodcuts of British birds, begun by the late Thomas Berwick of Newcastle, and to present readers with a complete list of British birds, with synonyms.

Illustrated throughout with charming vignettes to accompany the text.

Condition

In a half calf binding with cloth boards. Externally, very smart, with light rubbing, mainly to the head of the spine. Light marking to the cloth boards. Pencil inscription to front endpaper. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean throughout.
