Illustrated edition. Illustrated with a frontispiece, illustrated title, and twelve plates. Collated complete. A narrative poem in six cantos with copious antiquarian notes by Walter Scott. Set in the Scottish Borders in the mid-sixteenth century, the poem is written as if being sung by an aging minstrel seeks hospitality at Newark Castle. Written by Sir Walter Scott, a Scottish novelist, poet and historian whose works remain classics of European and Scottish literature.
Condition
Bound in half calf with marbled boards. Externally, smart with rubbing to the extremities and minor fading to the spine. Light marks to the boards. Front hinge starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot. Minor age toning to the endpapers with a contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper.
