Mudie published eight volumes in this collection of works, divided into two series. The first series consisted of The Heavens, the Earth, the Sea, and the Air, while the second series consisted of Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter.
Present here are three volumes from the series, The Sea, The Earth, and The Air.
Each volume is illustrated with a hand coloured frontispiece and title page.
These works offer fascinating insights into early nineteenth century scientific knowledge about the natural world.
Mudie wrote books on a wide range of subjects including mathematics and astronomy, history and geography, natural history and British birdlife.
With former owner's inscriptions dated 1859 to the front free endpaper of each volume.
With sixteen pages of advertisements to the rear of The Air and The Sea.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth bindings. Bumping to back strip heads and tails, with small losses of cloth to Sea back strip. Sea front joint starting, with board somewhat tender. Contemporary inscriptions to front free endpapers of each volume. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
