    Description

    Illustrated, Leather Binding

    Complete in Ten Volumes. Volume X contains additional title pages for Volumes I - VIII to the rear. With an armorial nameplate for Robert Montgomery Convoy on the front pastedowns. This set contains the eight volumes complete of The Life of Samuel Johnson with both volumes of the 'Johnsoniana' that was added during publication.

    Condition

    In original publishers cloth binding. bindings are generally tight and firm. Externally, smart. There is some wear to the extremities, including some bumping, with some discolouration and marks to the boards. The inner rear hinge is strained in volumes I and V, and has failed in volume VI and needs repair (allowed for in price). Internally the pages are generally bright, with some occasional slight browning. There is the occasional spot, becoming prominent to the first and last few pages. There is an ink signature on the title pages of volumes V to IX and on the half-title of volumes III and IV.
