A detailed ornithological work focusing on the birds commonly found on the British Isles.

Volume I illustrated with a hand coloured frontispiece and title page, and nine hand coloured plates.

Volume II illustrated with a hand coloured frontispiece and title page, and eight hand coloured plates.

Collated, complete.

Written by Robert Mudie, an author and newspaper editor. His other ornithological works included 'The Natural History of Birds'.

With the bookplate of H. Ashley-Brereton of the Royal Engineers to the front pastedown.

With eight pages of advertisements to the rear of volume II.

In half calf signed bindings by Slowgrove of Watford.

Condition

In half calf signed bindings, with cloth covered boards. Rubbing to back strips. Head of rear joint of volume II, and front joint of volume II starting, with boards firmly held. Bookplates to front pastedowns. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright, with instances of spotting to leaves surrounding plates. Restorations to fore edge of title pages.
