A very scarce work.
A curious study on the drinking habits of the British, in particular on the "extent, causes, and consequences of the great increase of habitual drunkenness among the labouring classes".
This lengthy report was presented to the House of Commons in June 1834, with the intention to devise legislative measures to prevent its further spread.
By James Silk Buckingham, a journalist and traveller who was a pioneer in the fight for a liberal press in India.
Condition
In the original quarter cloth binding with paper to the boards. Externally, front board is detached but present. Backstrip is lifting with a small amount of loss. Light rubbing and marks to the boards and spine. Minor bumping to the extremities. A small amount of loss to the extremities. Small tidemark to the head of the boards. Rear board is held by cords only. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots.
