Illustrated, Original Binding, Publishers' Original Binding

Complete in twelve volumes. Volumes one, two, three, four, seven, eight are dated 1833. Volumes nine, ten, eleven and twelve are dated 1834. Volumes five and six are undated. Each volume is illustrated with a frontispiece and an engraved title page. Written by Sir Walter Scott, a Scottish novelist, poet and historian whose works remain classics of European and Scottish literature. Volumes one to four contain 'Minstrelsy of the Scottish Border'. Volume five contains 'Sir Tristrem'. Volume six contains 'The Lay of the Last Minstrel' and a collection of ballads. Volume seven contains 'Marmion'. Volume eight comprises 'Lady of the Lake'. Volume nine comprises 'Rokeby,' and 'The Vision of Don Roderick. Volume ten includes 'The Lord of the Isles.' Volume eleven contains 'The Bride of Triermain,' 'Harold Dauntless' and 'The Field of Waterloo' and some songs and miscellanies. Volume twelve comprises of dramatic pieces.

Condition

In the original full cloth binding. Externally, worn with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spines with the odd mark to the boards. Loss to spine labels of each volume. Small splits in the cloth to the head and tail of the spines as well as the joints. Hinges just starting but firm to volumes five, nine, and twelve. Front hinge starting but firm to volume six with rear board and spine detached but present. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Further spotting and light age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscriptions to the front endpapers and title page.
