Illustrated, Original Binding

The Fifth and Sixth year of this anthological work which lists useful inventions and improvements, discoveries and new facts in numerous fields over that year. Inventions and discoveries are from the fields of mechanics, chemistry, natural history and social economy. Both volumes are illustrated throughout with vignettes and full page engravings of certain scientific improvements. Published by John Limbird, a well known publisher and bookseller of the nineteenth century. Limbird was regarded as 'the father of our periodical writing' in one obituary.

Condition

In original cloth bindings. Externally, generally smart with bumping to the extremities. Spine labels are heavily rubbed and age toned with a small amount of loss to both. Bumping to the head and tail of spine and several patches of rubbing to the boards. Hinges to volume II are tender resulting in binding tot he first and last few pages to be strained. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are slightly age toned to edges with light scattered spots throughout, heavier to the first and last few pages.
