What Our Customers Say...

Description

Folding Maps, Illustrated, Leather Binding

Complete in two volumes.

A thorough history of the ancient world, looking at the Egyptians, Carthaginians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Medes and Persians, Grecians, and Macedonians. This was a monumental and well respected work when it was first published, an exploration of the ancient world and humanity as it was for our ancestors.

Volume I is illustrated with a frontispiece, an engraved title page, seven folding maps, and one map.

Volume II is illustrated with an engraved title page, three folding maps, one map, and one plate.

Written by Charles Rollin, a noted French historian. He was a rector of the University of Paris, and revived the study of Greek. However, he was disqualified from his position for his religious opinions, as he held Jansenist principles. He wrote this work when he had been forbidden to teach.

With notes and a life of the author by James Bell.

Ink inscription of Thomas McGregor, May 1865, to the recto of the front endpapers.
