'Ornithological Biography' was originally planned by Audubon to be the text accompaniment to his impressive plate work 'Birds of America', however, the work expanded into five volumes.
This work is an impressive study of the birds native to the United States, offering charming life histories of each species.
John James Audubon was a pioneering ornithologist, who, during his career, produced works which showed a complete pictorial record of the birds of North America.
Including a prospectus for 'Birds of America' to the rear.
Bookplate of James Agar, the 3rd Earl of Normanton, to the front paste down. Normanton was a Conservative member of parliament.
Condition
In the original publisher's cloth binding. Externally, worn, rear board is detached but present. Front board is held by cords only and requires careful handling. Spine and extremities are faded. Backstrip is lifting to the head and tail, and a little to the joints. Minor bumping to the extremities. Light rubbing to the boards. A few marks to the spine. Bookplate to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and generally clean with scattered spots.
