Illustrated with a hand-coloured lithographic frontispiece, one folding map and one plan to 'Volume I'. A folding map frontispiece and eight monochrome vignettes to 'Volume II'. Collated complete. Rare to see with the original hand-coloured frontispiece.

This set features Major George Keppel's autobiographical account of his journey across the Balkans, and his travels through Türkiye. The account starts with his embarkment upon the H.M.S Rattlesnake, and covers his expedition to Athens, life in Türkiye during the early nineteenth century, his views on the Turkish government and much more. 

Bound in full modern cloth. Endpapers and blanks renewed, half titles retained. Library location stamp to the verso of the half title to 'Vol I'.

Bound in full modern cloth. Endpapers and blanks renewed, half titles retained. Externally excellent with minor handling marks. Bookplate of 'Joseph M Gleason' to the front pastedown. Front hinge starting after the title page. Internally firmly bound with bright and generally clean pages with the odd minor handling mark and spot. Library location stamp to the verso of the title page, with tape repairs to half title of vol II and to the folding map.
