This Christian allegory, first published in 1678, is often regarded as one of the most significant works of religious English literature, with antecedents in a large number of Christian devotional works, each speaking of the soul's path to Heaven.
This religious allegory is sometimes cited as the first novel written in the English language.
With newspaper clipping titled 'Bunyan's Place in History' tipped in to a front blank, and a bibliographical notice about this work to the front pastedown.
The first edition of this work to contain Southey's Life of Bunyan and the first edition to be edited by him.
Condition
In a full straight grain morocco binding, with gilt detailing to back strip. Externally, lovely. Rubbing to joints, with head and tail of joints starting, and boards firmly held. Bibliographical notice pasted to front pastedown, with newspaper clipping tipped in to a front blank. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright.
