What Our Customers Say...

Description

Leather Binding, Signed Binding

The third edition of this work to feature Rev. Daniel Wilson's introductory essay.

With an engraved portrait frontispiece.

The best known work of Joseph Butler, 'The Analogy of Religion' is an important Christian work arguing against disbelievers. Butler argues that nature provides clear evidence that God exists as an intelligent designer.

Appendix I in this work is the most significant part, in which Butler criticised John Locke's theory of personal identity. This appendix is still famous today, remaining the only part of the work which is still widely read.

In a signed half calf binding by Bolton.

Condition

In a half calf signed binding, with gilt detailing to back strip, with marbled paper covered boards. A touch of fading to back strip, as is common with calf of this colour.
