The first edition of this scarce work.
This volume recounts the authors voyage from Calcutta to Europe, via Egypt, undertaken in 1827 and 1828.
The author, Sarah Lushington, accompanied her husband, Charles, on the voyage, leaving Bengal after some years residence. Charles was a servant for the East India Company, and secretary to the Bengal Presidency.
With reflections on Calcutta, Bombay, the Red Sea, the Nile, Thebes, Cairo, Alexandria, Malta, Naples, and more.
Illustrated with a frontispiece. Collated, complete.
Condition
In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, the front board is detached but present. Small tears to the head and tail of the rear joint. Label to the spine. A small amount of loss and bumping to the head and tail of the spine and to the extremities. Light rubbing to the boards and spine. Bookseller's label to the front paste down. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very lightly age-toned and generally clean with scattered spots. Prior owner's ink inscription to the head of page 1.
