Complete in three volumes. First edition. One of the Waverley Novels. Set in Central Europe, mainly in Switzerland, shortly after the Yorkist victory at the Battle of Tewkesbury, this novel covers the period of Swiss involvement in the Burgundian Wars. With a detailed commentary on the Burgundian defeat at the Battle of Nancy at the beginning of 1477. Written by Sir Walter Scott, a Scottish novelist, poet and historian whose works remain classics of European and Scottish literature.

Condition

In the original half calf binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and light bumping to the extremities. Cracks to the joints with light loss to the spines and spine labels. The odd mark to the boards. Joints held by cords only with front board of volume two detached but present and rear board of volume three likely to detach with further handling. Hinges tender. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd small spot or handling mark. Previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown.
