    Leather Binding

    The complete and authoritative Robert Cadell edition of the Waverley Novels, regarded as the definitive collection edition or "Magnum Opus" edition of Scott's lifetime.

    Complete in forty-eight volumes.

    Uniformly bound in half calf, with marbled paper covered boards and decorative gilt to the spines.

    Each volume adorned with an engraved frontispiece and engraved vignette title page. 

    Based on previous editions and with new introductions and notes by Scott, this edition served as the basis of almost all subsequent editions until the appearance of the standard modern edition (the 30-volume Edinburgh Edition). 

    Prior to the release of Cadell's five-shilling volumes, copies of the Waverley Novels were too costly to collect for the average individual, thus encouraging this monthly and inexpensive format.

    Condition

    Uniformly bound in half calf, with marbled paper covered boards and decorative gilt to the spines. Externally, with slight rubbing to the extremities and scuffing to the boards. Internally, generally firmly bound, with the title pages to three volumes (X, XXX and XXXII) detached but present. Pages are bright and generally clean, with scattered spotting largely concentrated to the first and last few leaves. Two clippings tipped-in to the front endpapers of Vol I.
