Illustrated, Publishers' Original Binding
Two volumes of 'The Mechanics' Magazine, Museum, Register, Journal, and Gazette', containing issues from volumes XII and XIV of the journal, including issues dated between 1829 and 1831.
With vignette illustrations throughout. Featured illustrations include designs for a bell-tower, the 'sans pareil' locomotive, and the entrance to the Liverpool and Manchester railway. Including one folding plate.
The first volume begins with vol XII, no. 323, Saturday, October 17, 1829 and concludes with vol XII, no, 342, Saturday, February 27, 1830.
The second volume begins with vol XIV, no. 369, Saturday, September 4, 1830 and concludes with vol XIV, no. 394, February 26, 1831.
An interesting snapshot of the scientific and technological developments of this period towards the end of the Industrial Revolution.
Condition
In the publisher's original cloth binding. Bumping to back strip head and tail. Hinges strained, but firmly held. Internally, generally firmly bound, but with eight leaves detached and loosely inserted across two volumes, alongside two gatherings which are detached and loosely inserted. Pages age toned, with the odd spot and handling mark.
